Black Oak Jerky - Jerky Spice
Boston is noted for its ship building. The famed U.S.S Constitution, commonly known as 'Old Ironsides' was build here and launched October 21, 1797. The Boston Navy Yard was established in 1800 and is one of the oldest shipbuilding facilities for the US Navy.
Back in the 18th century when ship voyages were long and often difficult, crews had to rely on limited foods to help them set sail. Shipboard food usually consisted of hardtack bread or ship’s biscuit and salted or dried beef. Some said the beef resembled "black oak" and sailors would sometimes carve this beef into buttons or belt buckles.
