On December 3, 1787, The First Covered Wagon to leave Massachusetts for the West left from, what is today known as, Hamilton Massachusetts, and arrived the next spring in the Northwest Territory and founded Marietta, Ohio. Many people, who could afford it had carts and wagons to get around in. The Conestoga Wagon was the earliest American form of Covered Wagon and was extensively used by early pioneers to help settle the western frontier of the American colonies.
