Famous as the "Cradle of Liberty", Faneuil Hall, which was constructed in downtown Boston from 1740-1742 with personal funds by merchant Peter Faneuil, has been a market and assembly hall since 1743. The building was named in Mr. Faneuil's honor. This noteworthy assembly hall was the location of the first Town Meeting in the colonies and the spot where the Sons of Liberty expressed their dissatisfaction with British injustice.
