Battle Road is a 5 1/2 mile trail that follows the path of the British Regulars and Militia during the opening battle of the American Revolution on April 19th, 1775. The British Army took this road on their way from Lexington Massachusetts to Concord Massachusetts, on that day to look for hidden weapon stores at the Barrett's Farm. They also took this same road on their running retreat back to Lexington and onward through to Charlestown Massachusetts.

The Battle Road trail starts at Meriam's Corner and travels past historic farms and pastures, some dating back to the 1600's and still used today. A place called the bloody angle is where there was intense fighting as the militia used this area as a natural ambush location for a crossfire.

Battle Road ends at Fiske Well. Here a British Regular and a Militiaman from Acton both raised their guns at each other and fired. The British soldier died instantly and the Militiaman was mortally wounded.

A few British Regulars were buried close to where they fell during their fighting retreat.
